AN UNLUCKY groom running late for his big day was caught speeding towards his wedding venue in his "dodgy motor".

Police stopped the hapless bloke on the M4 in Wiltshire last Sunday racing more than 120mph in his souped-up BMW.

Not only was the Lewis Hamilton wannabe driving excessively over the speed limit, cops pulled him on his "dangerous" tyres too.

Writing a witty post on Twitter, Wiltshire Police's specialist squad said: "Usually, the bride is always late.

"Unfortunately, this groom has some explaining to do after being caught at 121 mph on the M4 on the way to his wedding."

They added: "A read nearside tyre with cord exposed topped this stop off. Driver reported to court, vehicle prohibited #donttellthebride."

The post went down a treat, with some locals saying they actually "felt sorry" for the spouse-to-be and his situation.

"I feel sorry for the guy, he was going to his wedding for crying out loud," wrote one resident.

"Could have given him a warning and let him go."

Another said: "It doesn't matter what punishment he gets from the courts…

"…he is in for a lifetime of punishment from his new wife for being late to their wedding."

While a third penned: "This is absolutely reckless. However tempting it is to exceed the speed limit, 120 MPH is outrageous."

A fourth agreed, commenting: "I am so relieved you stopped this irresponsible and selfish man.

"He was lucky no-one died as a result of his selfish choices."
