TELLY presenters Alison Hammond and Dermot O'Leary broke their silence after receiving backlash for comments on This Morning.

Both appeared to laugh ahead of news that riot police shut down a theatre performance of The Bodyguard in Manchester over "audience singing".

Covering the audience singing debate on the popular ITV morning show, Alison and Dermot seemingly "made light" of the situation.

Joining Vanessa Feltz, the three hinted that they would also sing along at shows, with fans calling for them to go to "karaoke" instead.

Apologising for her comments earlier this evening, Alison said she was "truly sorry" for the segment which aired on This Morning last week.

Taking to Twitter she wrote: "After reflection and the comments I made on Wednesday's show I want to apologise to anyone who I offended.

"Especially the incredibly talented theatre performers, who I have the upmost respect for.

"I had no idea the level of disruption audiences were causing and tried to make light of the topic on Wednesday's show, and for that I'm truly sorry."

Alison explained: "I am a great supporter theatre and the arts and would never sing at the top of my lungs at any performance.

"I was wrong in what I said and I've given this a lot of thought over the past few days and believe I was wrong.

"Seeing what happened at The Bodyguard in Manchester has made me sick to my stomach."

Dermot also Tweeted, but said his comments were made against the audience members removed from the show for "singing".
