A STUNNED guest on Antiques Roadshow was shocked by an "unbelievable" valuation of their beautiful brooch.

On Easter Sunday's episode, a guest was left stunned after discovering the extraordinary worth of their small family heirloom.

They explained: "It's a brooch which I inherited via my mother from my great aunt.

"They come from Silesia which is today Southern Poland and they had to flee from the Russians during the end of the war."

Initially, expert Geoffrey Munn believed it to be a design by legendary jeweller Faberge, who he had studied throughout his career.

However, there wasn't any maker's marks on the piece.

Upon closer inspection, it was discovered to be from "exactly the same period" and "exactly the same place" but created by one of the brand's competitors at the time.

The brooch was encrusted with diamonds and rubies and the guest had done her research before arriving.

They discovered it was also fourteen-karat gold after identifying a 56 kokoshnik mark.

She later explained her great aunt worked in the household of Prince Ernst of Hannover to which the expert said: "This a very typical gift from someone of royal personage."

"It's a rose that smells sweet but perhaps not sweet financially," said Geoffrey.

After some consideration, Munn estimated it to be worth a staggering £7,000 to £8,000, leading to gasps of shock from the audience.

The guest was "speechless" at the valuation, adding: "I could never believe that!"

Munn reassured the guest: "You'd better believe it!"

Later in the programme a Faberge cigarette case was also valued by Munn to a lesser but still respectable £2000.
